How to prepare a GST and QST return as an Uber driver in Québec
A sound return begins before the form: gather the right records, work with a consistent period, and separate calculated taxes from amounts already remitted by the platform.

1. Verify registration and your filing period
A driver linked to an agreement holder generally must register for GST and QST before the first covered trip. Verify your filing frequency and dates with Revenu Québec.
Do not add weekly statements to a summary that already covers the same trips, or income will be counted twice.
2. Gather platform documents
Download tax summaries and payment statements for the period. Identify tax-included sales, taxes collected, fees, adjustments, and amounts remitted on your behalf.
Reconcile the net payment with bank deposits. Differences can come from service fees, tips, promotions, or timing.
3. Classify expenses and mileage
Keep receipts and determine the portion genuinely related to business. A total and business mileage log supports the vehicle-use percentage.
Income-tax deductibility and GST/QST recovery are separate questions; the selected tax method affects available credits.
4. Calculate and reconcile remittances
Apply the method for your file, then account for amounts the agreement holder already remitted. The balance is not simply taxes shown minus bank deposits.
Before filing, verify tax numbers, dates, totals, and records. Seek qualified advice when uncertain.
